Cubbon Park in Bangalore offers various activities for visitors of all ages. In 1970, the park was finally renamed as Sri Chamarajendra Park to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar. The statues of Sir Mark Cubbon near the terrace garden and the statue of Sir K. Sheshadri Iyer (installed in 1913) are some of the other statues worth admiring. The well laid out walking path in the park makes it an ideal place for joggers who come in huge numbers to get some fresh air. Motorable roads are also laid inside the park that allow light motor vehicles to ply in and out of the park. Another ornamental tree that finds a place in this park is the tropical tree delonix, known more commonly as the gulmohar tree. Cubbon Park also comprises of ornamental trees such as Grevillea Robusta (silver oaks), the first one imported from Australia in the entire of Bangalore. Some of the local species found in this park are artocarpus, cassia fistula, ficus, polyalthias etc.
Cubbon Park is home to an incredible variety of flora, with over 6,000 trees representing roughly 96 species. Bengaluru Palace is a historic palace showcasing the grandeur of the Mysore royal family, featuring stunning architecture, artifacts, and beautiful gardens. Lalbagh Botanical Garden is a historic botanical garden in Bengaluru, featuring India's largest collection of tropical plants, a 19th-century Glass House, and the 3-billion-year-old Lalbagh Rock. Today, while “Cubbon Park” remains the name on everyone’s lips, the official name stands as a testament to the city’s royal heritage.
There are motor-able roads inside the park; access is only for light motor vehicles. Later, the park was extended to 1.2 square kilometers. In 1870, this park was opened and had an area of 100 acres. We were super happy that our refreshing morning walk to view blooming trees also turned out into an exciting statue trail hunt. King Edward’s statue is located outside the first gate (from where we entered near Cubbon road metro station).
